Virginia Bluegrass: The Virginia Ramblers, Caleb Bailey & Paine’s Run, The Fly Birds

15Jul2023

More than 70 years after the Stanley Brothers formed, bluegrass is still thriving in Virginia. This concert presents three diverse Virginia bands. From Charlottesville, The Virginia Ramblers is a band of traditional bluegrass veterans. With strong vocal harmonies and hard-driving instrumentation, they strive to carry on in the tradition of Jimmy Martin, the Stanley Brothers, and Bill Monroe. From Grottoes, Caleb Bailey & Paine’s Run is a young traditional bluegrass band with a unique sound and original song-writing. They pay homage to bluegrass tradition while bringing energy and their own style of singing and picking to their performances. From Winchester, The Fly Birds embody alternative bluegrass and Appalachian music. Named the winners of the 2019 DCBU Mid Atlantic Bluegrass Band Contest and the 2021 Watermelon Pickers Fest competition, The Fly Birds play a mix of folk, bluegrass and Americana music with lovely vocal harmonies, clawhammer banjo, fiddle, guitar and bass. Doors and the schoolhouse kitchen open at 2:00.

Show begins at 3:00 PM
